We all agree that empowering athletes to reach their full potential can be achieved through mental performance training. However, the financial capacity for teams to bring on a sport psychology professional may not always exist – making it difficult for some of our stars-in-the-making to realize their goals.
Thankfully, an experienced mental performance consultant/coach is equipped with the necessary tools and techniques to plan successful interventions across an entire season, and coaches and assistant coaches alike can easily implement the program! In the ideal world, it would be better to have someone neutral on the team so athletes can openly and honestly speak with them, in addition to providing the mental skills. But coaches can also be trained to deliver the basic blocks of mental training to ensure athletes are empowered with the skills they need to excel.
