Riding the waves of the Bodyboarding World Tour while mastering the art of sport psychology in graduate school was a juggling act that took years of dedication. But it was the realization that the knowledge I was gaining could serve me far beyond the competition that made it all worthwhile. The powdery taste of traveling and competing was no longer as sweet as unlocking the secrets of human performance.
Although I am not one to regret my decisions, I must say that juggling graduate school and bodyboarding competitions was a feat. My passion for both was split right down the middle and so was my time and energy. Looking back, I can see how it might NOT have been the most optimal choice.
Then, during one of my sport psychology courses, I uncovered a fascinating approach to success coined by coach Wooden – defining it as simply being the best you can be. This concept resonated with me deeply as I came to the realization that my most enriching experiences as an athlete would come from the lessons learned on my unique journey. I now understand that the true treasure lies not in trophies or sponsorships, but in the growth and learning that comes from immersing oneself in the world of athletics, and gaining insight from the journeys of fellow athletes.
As I reflect on my journey as an athlete, I realize that my experiences have become a valuable treasure that I carry into my new career as a sport psychology professional. As a mental performance coach, my unique expertise sets me apart in the field. And so, I have aptly named my business “ATHLETE’S TREASURE,” as I truly believe that our greatest treasures are the experiences and lessons we gain on our athletic journeys.
It all started back in April 2018, when I took the leap and opened my own private practice. I remember feeling a mix of excitement and nerves as I registered my business name and began building my dream from the ground up. And now, here we are on the cusp of our 5th anniversary! It has been a challenging journey, but I am incredibly happy with what I have accomplished over the years. Here I am to many more years of growth and success!
And this is the history of a business that started five years ago from the crazy dreams of a professional bodyboarder. 5TH Anniversary!
